Doring River: Whitewater Rafting Adventure
The Doring River offers a true wilderness experience. It is located near Clanwilliam, about a three-hour drive from Cape Town. This beautiful area is nestled in the foothills of the Cedarberg. It offers stunning scenery and vibrant springtime flowers. The river winds through a majestic canyon.
During the dry summer, the river is calm. In winter, however, rain-swollen waters create exciting whitewater rapids. These are known as ‘House,’ ‘Krantz,’ and ‘Island.’
Your Two-Day Expedition
We offer two-day expedition trips on this river section. We can also arrange 3-4 day trips on request. We use inflatable two-person ‘crocs.’ They are easy to paddle and steer. We also have stable rafts for less confident paddlers. SUP paddlers are welcome to join.
Each trip is a self-contained expedition. This means we carry all the gear. We also leave no trace behind. You only need to bring your personal camping gear and drinks.
What’s Included & What to Expect
The cost of your trip includes:
- All meals (starting with breakfast on the first morning)
- Qualified guides
- Boating and safety equipment
A typical two-day trip starts at our base camp. Your guides will meet you there. After breakfast, they will help you pack your dry bags. You will then be transported to the put-in point. Before you start, you’ll get a safety briefing and paddling instructions.
Over the next two days, you’ll enjoy exciting paddling and scenic camping. At the end, we will transport you back to base camp. The itinerary may vary slightly based on water levels.
Optional: You can stay at Oudrif Lodge. It overlooks the famous ‘House Rapid.’ Oudrif Lodge is a great choice for non-paddlers too. Let us know if you are interested, and we can provide a quote.
