Welcome to Exotic Animal World – Butterfly World, a truly unique attraction in the picturesque Western Cape Winelands! Step into our tropical paradise, a spacious 1500 m² greenhouse where countless free-flying exotic butterflies create a kaleidoscope of color.

Easily Accessible Location

Our location is perfect for visitors! You’ll find us at the crossroads of the Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Wellington Wine Routes, near Klapmuts. We’re easily accessible just off the N1 at Exit 47 on Route 44 (300m south). It’s a popular and convenient stop for anyone exploring the beautiful Winelands.

Explore Diverse Animal Exhibits at Exotic Animal World

Beyond the main garden, where tropical butterflies from Central America and Southeast Asia flutter freely, discover separate enclosures featuring a variety of fascinating animals. Spot free-roaming birds, common marmosets, green iguanas, and even a few shy blue duiker!

One of our highlights at Exotic Animal World is the Martin Filmer Spider Room. Here, local and exotic spiders and scorpions are displayed in secure glass terrariums. This exhibit aims to educate everyone about these often-misunderstood creatures, helping to clear up myths and fears.

In the Reptile Bay, you can observe unique Madagascan reptiles like chameleons and plated lizards, alongside tortoises, Australian skinks, and bearded dragons. Our large aviary is home to a delightful variety of ex-pet birds, including budgies, lovebirds, pigeons, and doves, plus a charming group of guinea pigs with wild hairstyles!

Learn & Shop at Exotic Animal World

A fascinating butterfly display in the Spider Room offers deep insights into the lives and habits of butterflies. The collection is organized by regions of origin, with Western Cape butterflies beautifully presented against a wine farm backdrop, and South American species set against an Amazon rainforest painting.

Our gift shop offers a range of butterfly-themed souvenirs, while the Jungle Leaf Café serves delicious light meals and refreshments.

Outdoor Fun & Relaxation

Outside, our garden features a delightful meerkat enclosure, along with free-range ducks and chickens that children love to feed. A dedicated LAPA area provides additional activities for our younger visitors. For those looking to relax, the LAPA kiosk offers refreshments. Please note, we do not have formal picnic facilities, and outside food is not permitted. The LAPA is exclusively for guests with valid entry tickets.
